PREPARATORY CLASSES
(during school year)
In addition to Company classes, the SCDT offers Preparatory classes for younger dancers who are not old enough to audition for the Company.
Perfect for ages four to eight, these classes emphasize correct ballet training as a form of self-expression and creativity using the basic structure of a ballet class. Ballet steps with appropriate terminology and imagery are used to increase a child’s musical awareness, strength and flexibility.
Artistry and performance skills, confidence and self-esteem are emphasized in order to develop body strength, coordination and the discipline necessary for the learning of classical ballet. Musicality and posture awareness is also encouraged and developed.
Although we take our training seriously, we strive to create a nurturing, comfortable, and fun atmosphere in the classroom.
